The dirty little secret of perfectionism
--
Weekly Report CW34
This week went by quick. I can’t believe it’s Friday again. Today, I feel a bit drained from writing a lot this week. I’m happy that Alessia Wiss started pushing our joineverydays.com project. We want to curate an Instagram channel with inspirational artists who create everyday art without breaking the chain. This Instagram channel should motivate people to join so that they can cure creative block.
“Put your daily practice first and you’ll serve everyone better.”
— joineverydays.com
You might wonder how you can achieve publishing creative work every day. But think about bringing consuming into balance with creating. People consume on average four hours of TV / Netflix per day. If you just cut one hour of consuming and transform it into creation, you’ll serve yourself well. This consistent creative practice is magical. As soon you build up momentum, it becomes hard to stop. And you know what? It’s way better than that: It starts to energize you. This energy is powerful to serve other people, like clients or friends. Because once commitment and self-confidence to oneself are established, it’s easy to help others.
I can’t wait to see our Instagram channel grow with artists who practice every day. I’m super curious to find out who on earth is doing it. And I’m excited to see who will follow this mission. The new book “Practice” by Seth Godin is very inspiring and all about daily practice. We are in full control of our method, but we are not about the feedback of people. So why focusing so much on future feedback rather than our method of creation?
“…you’ll learn to dance with your fear.”
Before I started almost 1000 days ago with running and creating art every day, I considered myself a perfectionist. But let’s face reality: The dirty little secret of perfectionism is not finishing work.
